Where are you now — I mean, right NOW?
Not just in the landscape that surrounds you, but more so in the landscape of your mind……… Where are you placing your attention right this moment?
Have your thoughts already begun to wander over to another (more important) message in your mail box? Has your attention been drawn out, over to all the other things you ‘need‘ so seemingly urgently to do? Are you ‘busy’ entertaining a flood of thoughts, playing out fictional stories involving all sorts of imagined folks in far away places, lost in to the words of future conversations……? Possibly you are caught in a loop of comparing and competing, judging and blaming, isolating yourself – and others – as you feed the ‘out there’ frenzy? Or maybe, just maybe, it’s that very shiny, very special, very big, VERY important, totally compelling ‘thing’ over there, which you just cannot take your eyes off of . . . ?
We’ve all had the experience of being ‘somewhere’, and not having had any real awareness of really BEING there at all. Not having had any appreciation of the qualities of the moment for being so distracted, so off and away. The subtle. The obvious. The gleaming. The seemingly banal. The simply extraordinary. The details of awareness.
Not having had ears fully present to really listen to the words of another, for there was another conversation happening amongst our thoughts. Not having had eyes fully awake to really see all that was, for our attention was adrift, wrapped in to another story. Not having had any sense of being fully immersed in where we were, in all we were seeing, in all we were seemingly doing, in all that was really going on………… for ‘WE’ were not there.
We’ve all had these lost experiences . . . being ‘somewhere’, whilst giving permission for our presence to float to someplace completely else.
And so it is we have to then ask……… What is it that we are so feverishly, so passionately, so persistently trying to distract ourselves from?? Why is it that we are making the choice, again and again and again, to be distracted rather then to BE present?
Pause, and choose to IMMERSE yourself, FULLY (or not, but do).
Bring the same persistent intensity of passion to fully immersing MORE in this Now experience. ‘Holding’ each unique ingredient with kindness, with appreciation, with care, with Love, as you allow your Self to experience the experience that you ARE.
Instead of feeding the frenzy of distraction, can you nourish the delight of curiosity . . . MORE? Put the pause in the stream of nonstop multi-tasking, and experience THIS moment…… And when you forget, for you will forget and drift, just bump yourself to come back to the experience again, and again, and again.
Experience the grubby, and the banal. Experience the divine, and the splendiferous. Experience the mud, the dirt, the belly laughs, and the intimacy of another. Experience it ALL, for this IS it.
And especially when it seems as though you are being ‘pulled out’, ESPECIALLY then, for there will always be something seeming to pull…… notice more, experience the experience more. And when it seems you ‘don’t know‘ . . . come back to the Now experience. And when things seem boring, come back to the Now experience, hearing this as your cue to get in to it a little more, . . . for what after all is boredom, then not experiencing the Now as fully as you know you are able?
CHOOSE. Choose to experience the experience fully … aware and awake … with more appreciation, with more Love. For it IS a choice, a choice that you are free to make, a choice that is always available to you………. however seemingly difficult (or not) it may appear.
So where are you now?
Immerse yourself in THIS one, in THIS experience ……….. However seemingly menial or dull, glossy or outstanding, your experience will be directly proportional to the attention you choose to bring to it. So immerse yourself MORE in this one, for this is the one where you ARE, for this therefore IS the most important one. Your bottom on the chair. The sun streaming through the window. Your fingers in contact with the keys. The air as it meets your skin. EVERY moment is your opportunity to open your eyes more fully, and feel what it is to be here. To be HERE right Now.
So, are you willing? THIS experience, experiencing this experience? Right Now? MORE?
Curious and awake, choose THIS one.
