Quiet now . . . Even before you being reading these words, Quieten just a little.
Sometimes everything feels super noisy inside. It’s a little like all the chattering monkeys of our mind are having a conference which is being amplified out through megaphones, and all we hear is an endless stream of not very helpful (and not very interesting) chat chat chattering — thinking. A constant loop of repetition that literally goes nowhere, and yet it appears as though we have no choice in the matter but to listen to the broadcast as it booms, vibrates, and echoes throughout the body, dimming us down with every mindless word.
Well, we DO have a choice . . . To keep spinning the record, allowing the cacophony of noise to bombard and crash through our every experience, OR to stop, just for a moment, and Quieten.
Turn down the volume. Take the needle off the record. Literally just press Pause!
As you become aware of the spin of noise, and as you begin to see its less then supportive ways, then, then you have the choice to choose differently. To QUIETEN, and FREE YOURSELF from this seemingly unending bind.
Allow yourself to put a PAUSE in to the constant stream of chatter that tries so tirelessly to figure out the details, to fix all the apparent ‘holes’, and to understand and work out the big and the small. Put in a pause, and turn down the volume . . . even just a little.
Most likely this will feel a little foreign to begin with. In fact you may have a whole other storyline of babble come up from the monkey crowd just at the prospect of Quietening. PAUSE, and just see if you can settle, and settle, and settle some more, reminding yourself to ‘Quiet Now‘. No big deal. No big drama. No big effort. No big ‘another thing to do’. Just Quieten… and then Quieten some more. And after a while the blare of noise will feel less appealing, and this Quieter, clearer, more open space will feel like where you want to listen in to.
There will be noise at times, and that is as it is . . . Just see if you can begin to notice when the turbulence of noise starts to amp up and overtake, and then remind yourself that there isn’t a loudspeaker inside, and that you certainly don’t have to listen even if it sounds like everything is notched up to full blast.
You may of course wonder, “but what will I do if I’m not thinking…?” Well, are you curious to find out? Are you willing to find out?
Quiet Now . . . even just a little. Notice where you ARE. Notice what is REALLY going on in this Now moment.
